(Sad Girl)
I seen her at a stoplight on Alvarado
Sitting in a pearl white El Dorado
In a gangsta lean, she was revving the throttle
She got a sticker on the bumper say she like Tejano
She looked like Selena, the truth couldn't be plainer
She like a gansta boogie, her poppie calls her cookie
My friends call her a sad girl, 'cuz her man went away
And he ain't never coming back
So cry another tattoo tear

I seen her at the market, she was pushing a stroller
Smoking on a cigarette, drinking a soda
Laughing at a joke that somebody just told her
Got her baby's name tattooed on the back of her shoulder
She looked like an angel, she talk like the devil
She feel like a stranger, she live like a rebel
She's a sad girl, 'cuz her man went away
And he ain't never coming back
Girl so cry another tattoo tear

[hook]
Sad girl living on the east side of the city
Proud woman, boy, she don't want none of your pity
Sad girl, got no one to rely on
Proud woman don't need your shoulder to cry on
But she could use a little rent now
And a bag of groceries

I seen her at the post office mailing a letter
She she sent a little no money and she made him a sweater
She's talking on a payphone and something upset her
I really want to hold her, but I only just met her
But I can tell she'd been crying
She said she felt like dying
She never been so alone, no
She got to make it own her own, no
She's a sad girl, 'cuz her man went away
And he ain't never coming back
Girl so cry another tattoo tear

[hook]

She's a sad girl, 'cuz her man went away
And he ain't never coming back

(Black Jesus)
They call me
White devil, black Jesus
Heaven closes, hell freezes
Ego's trippin'
Scripts keep flippin'
Bloods keep bloodin'
Crips keep crippin'
Time keeps slippin'
I keep fallin'
I can't see but I hear them callin'
Ballers ballin'
Players playin'
Haters fightin'
Righteous prayin'
Dawn breaking
Manhattan keeps making
Brooklyn keeps takin'
Shook ones keeps shakin'
No time for fakin'
Y' know w' I mean
I ain't choppin' no pies
Just risin' like cream
If you're digging the scene
If you feelin' the vibes
Throw your hands in the air
Scream out you're alive
And sing
Sing na na nana na na
Singin' na na nana na na (repeat)

They call me
White Jesus, black Moses
Heaven freezes, hell closes
B-Boy poses, punk rock chicks
The kids are all right but I need my fix
If you're diggin' the mix
If you're feelin' the drugs
If you're keepin' it real
Livin' like thugs
I spit kisses and hugs like .45 slugs
Come back on the one and kiss my love gun
I got a look that will kill
A voice that will carry
Half a dozen women that I think I wanna marry
Got trouble on my mind, I'm refusin' to lose
And still I've gotta find me someone to abuse
So won't you run spread the news
Help say the word
And jump the fuck back and jus' act like you heard

[hook]
They call me
White devil, black Jesus
Heaven closes, hell freezes
Black Jesus, white Moses
Heaven freezes, hell closes
Sing na na nana na na
Singin' na na nana na na (repeat)

Shoo be doo wah, wah wah wah wah (repeat)

They call me
White sinner
Black martyr
Live wire
Fire starter
Jungle brother
Redneck cracker
Freak of nature
New world slacker
Sex junkie lookin' for a dealer
You can play the leper girl and I can play the healer
Shit is only getting realer baby haven't you heard that the
Bird, bird, bird, yes the bird is the word

They go one for the trouble
Two for the time
Three for my homies
And four for the dimes
I'm singin' lemons to the lime
Till the break of dawn
Excuse me ("Six minutes")
Everlast you're on
And they go on and on
Like a rolling stone
Baby anywhere I lay my hat is my home

[hook]

jump back to page top/table of contentsToday (The Life Acoustic Version)

(Today)
Yesterday: just a dream I don't remember
Tomorrow: still a hope I've yet to indulge
I'm out of time, I'm out of rhyme, I'm out of reason
Season's change and leave me out in the cold,
The story's old, the tale been told by many scholars
Got a fistful of dollar and pocketful of love
God above if you hear me cryin'
I've tried to sell my soul but no one's buyin'
Lord, strike me down now if I'm lyin'
It's gettin' cold, it's time for dyin'

[hook]
Come on and watch me shine
Like the world is mine, Lord, today
Come on and watch me shine
Like the world is mine, Lord, today
Watch me shine

Let the man who's free from sin
Cast the first stone and begin the violence
Let the man whose words ring true
Speak on up till his voice breaks through the silence
Let the ones who lose their way
Live to see just one more day in the sunshine
My life (x4)
Let the ones who choose to stray
Recognize the prize they'll pay, in their lifetime

[hook]

Sittin' you wait for my roads to cross
You nail me down and you watch me bleed
So lay my head against the earth
Plant my body like a seed
You can't always get the things you want, love
You get what you deserve or maybe what you need
So fill my hole with precious dirt
Till the soil and plug the weed
Plug the weed

[hook]

Watch me shine (repeat)

You're the air that I breathe
You're the sun when it breaks through the clouds
You're all that I need
But I know that you're having some doubts
I'm down on my knees
I'm praying you stick this out
I'm beggin' you please girl
I'm sorry I let you down

[hook]
I'm broken like a promise
I'm shattered like a dream
I'm broken with all my pieces scattered 'round for you to see
I'm broken like a record
I sing the same old song
I'm broken like the heart of a man that's run away from love too long
Girl what about you
What about you girl

It's so hard to speak
I can barely look you in the eye
It's so hard to breathe
But I know I ain't afraid to die
Your breath is so sweet
Your kisses could get me high
My heart is so weak
Your loving could get me by

[hook, x2]

What about you girl
Girl what about you

jump back to page top/table of contentsStone In My Hand (The Life Acoustic Version)

Ride with the devil, hide with the Lord
Got no pistol, got no sword
Got no army, ain't got no land
Ain't got nothing but the stone that's in my hand

Stone in my hand, stone in my hand
Ain't got nothing but the stone that's in my hand

You say you want a revolution, well get on board
We'll start a new crusade, we'll start a holy war
Don't need no orders, don't need no plan
I don't need nothing but the stone that's in my hand

Stone in my hand, stone in my hand
Don't need nothing but the stone that's in my hand
Stone in my hand, stone in my hand
Don't need nothing but the stone that's in my hand

Build your fighter jets, you drop your bombs
You kill our fathers, you kill our moms
You kill our brother and our sisters, and our uncles and our aunts
And still I'm fighting with the stone that's in my hand

Stone in my hand, stone in my hand
Still I'm fighting with the stone that's in my hand
Stone in my hand, stone in my hand
All the love that's in my heart and the stone that's in my hand

Blood runs the gutters, smoke fills the sky
Every son that suffers, every mother cries
So if you've had enough and you're ready for your stand
I'll be waiting with the stone that's in my hand

Stone in my hand, stone in my hand
I'll be waiting with the stone that's in my hand
Stone in my hand, stone in my hand
All the love that's in my heart and the stone that's in my hand

jump back to page top/table of contentsWeakness (The Life Acoustic Version)

(Weakness)
Met a fine red boned mami, she told me that her name was Lucille
Met her on Fountain Avenue sitting on the back of a Cadillac coupe Deville
She said "I'm a liar, a thief, a junkie and I used to be a whore"
"And I've been trying to shake this monkey so long I just can't take it no more"

[hook]
"I got a weakness, I got a hunger, I got a jones
I'm sick and I need to get well, I hurt deep in my bones
I got a weakness, I got a fever, I got a thirst
I'm sitting on the edge of the bubble and I'm just waiting for it to burst"

We talked all afternoon, she made me cry, I told some jokes
She looked me deep in my eyes and told me love was nothing but a cruel hoax
Her grandmother died when she was five and she never did know her folks
Her father fell in a gun fight and her mother by an overdose

And she said

[hook]

She said "I've slept with gangsters, thugs and smugglers, congressmen and governors.
I've seen therapists and holy men, but this weakness is my only friend.
It feeds my need, it numbs my soul, it starts to creep and takes control
Sell my flesh, pierce my skin and tomorrow I'll do it all again."

'Cause

[hook]

jump back to page top/table of contentsChildren's Story [Slick Rick cover] (The Life Acoustic Version)

(Children's Story)
Once upon a time not long ago,
When people wore pyjamas and lived life slow
When laws were stern and justice stood,
And people were behavin' like they ought to: good
There was a little boy who was misled by another lil' boy
And this is what he said
"Me and you, Guy, we gonna make some cash,
Robbin' old folks and makin' the dash"
They did the job, money came with ease,
But one couldn't stop, it's like he had a disease
He robbed another and another and a sister and her brother
Tried to rob a man who was a D.T. undercover,
The cop grabbed his arm, he started acting erratic,
He said, "keep still, boy, there's no need for static",
Punched him in his belly and he gave him a slap
But little did he know the lil' boy was strapped,
The kid pulled out his gun
He said, "Why'd you hit me?",
The barrel headed straight for the cop's kidney
The cop got scared, the kid starts to figure,
"I'll do years if I pull this trigger"
So he cold dashed and ran around the block,
Cop radios in to another lady cop
He ran by a tree, there he saw this sister,
A shot for the head, he shot back but he missed her
Looked 'round good in expectations,
So he decided he'd head for the subway stations
But she was coming so he made a left,
He was runnin' top speed till he was outta breath
Knocked an old man down and swore he killed him,
Then he made his move to an abandoned building
Ran up the stairs up to the top floor,
Opened up the door there, guess who he saw
Dad, the dope fiend shootin' dope,
Who don't know the meaning of water nor soap,
He said, "I need bullets, hurry up, run",
The dope fiend brought back a spanking shotgun
He went outside but there was cops all over,
So he get into a car, it was a stolen Nova
Raced up the block doing 83, crashed into a tree near university,
Escaped alive though the car was battered,
He rat-a-tat-tatted and all the cops scattered
Ran out of bullets but still had static,
Grabbed a pregnant lady and pulled out the automatic
Pointed at her head and he said the gun was full of lead
He told the cops, "back off or honey here's dead",
Deep in his heart he knew he was wrong
So he let the lady go and he starts to move on,
Sirens sounded, he seemed astounded
Before long the lil' boy got surrounded,
He dropped his gun, so went the glory
And this is the way I got to end this story,
He was only nineteen, in a madman's dream
I saw the cops shoot the kid, I still hear him scream,
This ain't funny so don't you dare laugh
Just another case about the wrong path,
Straight and narrow or your soul gets cast
Good night y'all, yeah

jump back to page top/table of contentsStay (The Life Acoustic Version)

I just can't do it, not anymore
Every time I fake a smile, I feel just like a whore
I just can't do it, it's beyond my means
I learned all I know about love reading fashion magazines
I just can't do it, it can't be done
That's just what I say, cause I know I'm not the one

I've been moving for so long
My life's a million miles away
I'm the one that made you strong, girl
But I could not make you stay

I just can't do it, it's much too hard
I drive around alone at night, up and down the boulevard
I just can't do it, I feel so old
It looks like the sun is shining but the wind is blowing cold
I just can't do it, I've come too far
I sit at home alone at night, and I just wonder where you are

I've been standing still so long
My life's a million miles away
I'm the one that made you strong, girl
But I could not make you stay

I just can't do it, no matter how hard I try
And you don't come around anymore, but I know the reason why
I just can't do it, I feel so late
I hang on with all my might, I just can't accept this fate
I just can't do it, I feel so bad
I sit around and think about all the chances that I had

I've been hurting for so long
My life's a million miles away
I'm the one that made you strong, girl
But I could not make you stay

No I could not make you stay (x2)

jump back to page top/table of contentsMy Medicine (The Life Acoustic Version)

Jack be nimble, Jack be quick
Jack up the spoon on the candlestick
Dopesick pimpin' on the one-trick pony
Yeah, she kinda skinny but she gets my money

[hook, x2]
Get my money, buy my medicine
Buy my medicine, buy my medicine

Jack start hangin 'round with some fiends
Got strung out, sold the cow for beans
Told young wifey "I love ya, honey,
But you gotta hit the streets, go and get my money"

[hook, x2]

[bridge]
Girl my love's gonna last just as long as my high
You can trust every word I'm gonna tell you is a lie

Jack starts a track up and down the hill
Got to walkin' thinkin' ace what he told to Jill
Come rain, come shine, come snow or if it's sunny
Get the fuck out girl, get my money

[hook, x2]

[bridge]

Girl, I love you

Yeah

jump back to page top/table of contentsLonely Road

(Lonely Road)
Too much time, thinkin' 'bout all of my mistakes
My heart, my mind, my soul, my body aches
I hunger for the loving arms of your embrace
I walk along the lonely road

[hook]
I walk along the lonely road
My back is strong, girl
I'll carry the load
I'm on the grind, in time I'll pay the debt that's owed
I walk along the lonely road

Too much time, thinkin' 'bout everything that went wrong
I cry my eyes out every time I hear your song
I hope this path leads me back where I belong
I walk along the lonely road

[hook]

Too much pride for me to up and take the blame
Deep inside, girl, it's killin' me with pain
Every night when I sleep I call your name
I walk along the lonely road

[hook, x2]

I walk along the lonely road (x2)

jump back to page top/table of contentsGrandma's Hands [Bill Withers cover]

Mhm (repeat)

Grandma's hands
Clapped in church on Sunday morning
Grandma's hands
Played a tambourine so well
Grandma's hands
Used to issue out a warning
She'd say "Billy don't you run so fast
Might fall on a piece of glass
Might be snakes there in that grass"
Grandma's hands

Grandma's hands
Soothed a local unwed mother
Grandma's hands
Used to ache sometimes and swell
Grandma's hands
Used to lift her face and tell her
She'd say "Baby, Grandma understands
That you really love that man
Put yourself in Jesus hands"
Grandma's hands

Grandma's hands
Used to give me a piece of candy
Grandma's hands
Picked me up each time I fell
Grandma's hands
Used to really came in handy
She'd say "Matty don' you whip that boy
What you want to spank him for?
He didn't drop no apple core"
But I don't have Grandma anymore, no

When I get to Heaven I'll look for
Grandma's hands
Grandma's hands
Mhm

jump back to page top/table of contentsJump Around? (The Life Acoustic Version)

*laughter*
Pack it up, pack it in
Let me begin, I came to win
Battle me? that's a sin
Won't ever slack up, punk you'd better back up
Try and play the role, yo, the whole crew will act up
Get up, stand up, come on throw your hand up
If you've got the feeling, jump up touch the ceiling
Muggs let's the funk flow, someone talk junk, yo
I'll bust'em in the eye, take the punk's ho
Feel it, funk it, amps in the trunkin
And I got more rhymes than there's cops that are
Dunkin' Donuts shop, sure 'nuff I got props
From the kids on the Hill plus my mom and my pop

[hook]
I came to get down, I came to get down
So get out your seat everybody, jump around
Everybody jump around (x3)
From town to town, from bed to bed
It's like I said
We jump around
Everybody jump around

I'll serve your ass like John McEnroe
If your girl'd step up, I'd still smack that ho
Word to your moms I came to drop bombs
I got more rhymes than the bible's got psalms
And just like the Prodigal Son I've returned
Anyone stepping to me you'll gettin' burned
'Cause I got lyrics and you ain't got none
So if you come to battle bring a shotgun
But if you do you're a fool 'cause I duel to the death
Step to me you'll take your last breath
I gots the skill, come get your fill
'Cause when I shoot to give, I shoot to kill

[hook]

I'm the cream of the crop, I rise to the top
I never eat a pig lest a pig is a cop
Or better yet a Terminator, like Arnold Schwarzenegger
Try and play me out like as if my name was Sega
But I ain't goin' out like no punk bitch
Get used to one style - I might switch it up
Up and around, buck buck you down
Put out your head then you wake up in the "Dawn of the Dead"
I'm comin' to get ya, I'm comin' to get ya
Spittin' out lyrics, homie I'll wet ya

[hook]
